BACKGROUND

The Hong Kong Museum of Art is one of the esteemed cultural institutions managed by the Leisure & Cultural Services Department. Established in 1962, the museum was initially housed within the City Hall, before moving to its purpose-built premises adjacent to the Hong Kong Cultural Centre in 1991.

The Hong Kong Museum of Art’s mission is to preserve the rich cultural heritage of China and promote art with a strong local focus. Its extensive collections now encompass over 16,000 art objects, including a diverse array of Chinese paintings and calligraphy works, antique Chinese treasures, paintings of historical significance, as well as creations by acclaimed local artists.
